‘ I have found falsehood in the men of judah, and in the inhabitants of jerusalem. They turn to the old faults of their fathers, who refused to listen to My message, and they go after seducing gods, to serve them. The House of Israel and the House of judah have broken the Covenant which I made with their ancestors. thus says the EVER-

I will bring suffering upon them, from which they will not be able to escape, when they will cry to Me, but I will not hear them. Then the cities of judah, and- the inhabi- tants of jerusalem will go and shriek to the gods to whom they offer in- cense ;» but they cannot save them in their time of distress ! although your gods are as many as your villages, judah! and more than the number of streets in jerusalem are the altars you erect for them—a1tars to your shame-——to burn incense to Bal!
