The History of the People of Israel

15-24 THE MONARCHICAL PERIOD.——·I. KINGS. 16-:4 thcy are recorded in the history of

the period of the kings of judah. When he grew old he sudered from

24 gout. Then Asa. slept with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David, and instead of him Yhoshafat his son reigned. (2.c. 954.) jinhab iliigus chu Israel. 25 Nadab, the sou of jerabam, began to reign over Israel in the seventh year of Asa. king of judah, and he

26 reigned over Israel two years. He did wrong in the eyes ofthe EVER- uvmc, walking in the ways of his father, and sinned, as he caused

27 Israel to sin. Then Basha·ben· _Akhiah of the House of Issakar con- spired against him; and Basha murdered him at Gibethon, belonging to Philistia, while Nadab and the army of Israel were besieging Gibe·

28 thon. So he killed him in the third year of Asa king of judah; and

29 reigned after him; and when he was elected he murdered all the House of jerabam. He left none breathing to jerabam, until he had destroyed him, as the EvER·L1v1NG said, when He spoke by the meansof His servant

30 Akhiah the Shilonite, because of the sin that he caused Israel to sin, by the provocation with which they provoked the Even-1.1vms Gon ot Israel. 31 As forthe otheradairs o£Nadab, and all that he did, they are recorded in the history of events in the times of

32 the kings of Israel. There was, how- ever, war between Asa and Basha king of Israel all their time. (About ac. 953..) Qazliwlizit- §\Id;inlj iirigns uber Israel. 33 In the third year of Asa king of judah, Basha—ben—Akhiah began to reign over all Israel in Thirtzah for

34 fourteen years. But he did wrong in the sight of the Evax·x.1v1ne, wa1k~ ing in the ways of jerabam, and in the sins he caused Israel to sin. (n.c. 930.) 18 Consequently the word of the Evmz·L1vxNG came to ]ehua·ben- Khanain, against Basha, to say:

Why, since I raised you from the dust, and- made you a leader over My People Israel, do you walk in the way of jerabaxn, and make My people Israel sin, to odend Me by their sin ? I am angry with Basha and with his 3 House, and I will make your house like the House of jerabam-ben- Nebat. Whoever of Basha dies in 4 this city, the dogs shall eat; and the birds of the skies shall eat whoever dies of his in the tields 1 ’ But the other affairs of Basha, and 5 what he did, and his buildings, those are written in the history of events of the times of the kings of Israel. Basha, however, slept with his fathers, 6 and was buried in Thirtzah, and Alah his son reigned after him. But there 7 also came by means of jehua-ben- Khanain the message from the EVER- LIVLNG against Basha and his House, and against all the wrong that he did in the sight of the Evaienivmci, by insulting him with his manufactured idols ;-—~it denounced him for- being like the House of jerabam,-—and because he assailed it. (12.0. 93o.) Aish-lizn·'Bu¤l;s iirigus uber §srsrl. In the sixteenth year of Asa king of 8 judah, Alah_—be_n-Hasha began to reign over Israel in Thirtzah for two years. (ac. 928.) Zimri Gmwpirzs in Marker Qin!). Then his otiicer Zirnri, Commander g of the Chariot Barracks, conspired against him, while he wasnt Thirtzah, at a drinking bout, at the house of Artza, who was superintendent of his palace in Thixtzah. There to Zimri came and assailed, and killed him, in the seventeenth year of Asa, king of judah, and reigned in his stead. When he was elected king, rr and had settled himself on his throne, he killed the whole family of Basha. He did not leave of him a male child, or a relative of his, or a friend. Thus Zimri destroyed the whole family of Basha, according to the message of the Evan-Livme that he spoke to Basha, by means of i jehua the Reciter, because of all the sins of Basha, and the sins of Alah his son, that they sinned, and that they made Israel to sin, to provoke the Even- LIVING Gon of Israel to amict them. As to the remainder of the affairs

of Alah, and all that he did, they are written in the history of the events of the times of the kings of Israel. 365 I2
