E] haircloth; and thc full moon became like blood; thc stars of the sky also fall upon the earth, asa fig-tree drops its unripc fruit, when shaken by a strong wind. And the sky vanished like a scroll when rolled up; and every mountain and island were re- moved from their places. And the kings of the earth, and the nobles, and the generals, and the wealthy, and the mighty, as well as every slave and free man, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the hills ; and called to the hills and to the rocks, ‘ Fall upon us, and hide us from the presence of the Occupant of the throne,and from the displeasure ofthe Lamb ; for the great day of their anger is come-·and who is able to stand ?’ After this I saw four angels stationed

at the four quarters of the earth, re- straining the four winds of the earth, so that no wind could blow upon the land, nor upon the sea; nor any tree stirred! I also saw another angel ascend

from the sunrising, holding the seal of the living God; and with a loud voice, he called to the four angels who were empowered to punish the Do not injure the land, nor the sea, nor the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God upon their fore- I also heard the number of those

thousand sealed; from the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand; from the tribe of Gad twelve thousand; from the tribe of Asher twelve thousand; from the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand ; from the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand; from the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand; from the tribe of Levi twelve thousand ; from the tribe of lssachar twelve thousand : from the tribe of Zebulon twelve thousand; from the tribe of joseph twelve thousand; from the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand. After this I looked, and saw a great

multitude, whom no one could count, from every nation, and from tribes, d from eolesand from l angp, anguages, standing efore the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes. with with a loud voice they chanted, ex- claiming, ‘ The salvation is from our God, Who sits upon the throne, And from the Lamb. Then all the angels standing around

the throne, and the elders, and the palm-branches in their hands. And four Beings, also bowed before the throne, depressing their faces, and paid homage to God, exclaiming, Amenl The fame, and the majesty, and the wisdom, and the blessing, and the honour, and the power, and the might, are with our God, throughout eternity} And one nom among the elders

As for these dressed in white robes—who are they-? and where do they come from ?’ I replied. he proceeded,

‘ who came out of great amiction, and they washed their robes, and made them white in the blood ofthe Lamb. Because of this they are before the throne of God, and day and night they serve Him in His sanctuary; and the Occupant of the throne protects them. They shall never hunger again, nor thirst again ; neither shall the sun beat upon them, nor any heat: because the Lamb having ascended the midst of the throne shall shepherd them, and will lead them to springs of living water; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes} And when He opened the seventh

seal, a silence came in the heaven for half an hour. Then I saw the seven angels, those who stand in the sight of God; and seven trumpets were delivered tothem. And another angel came and stood

at the altar, holding a golden censor; and abundance of incense was given to him, so that he might offer it with the prayers of all the holy upon the golden altar which is in sight of the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the holy, ascended in the sight of God &·om the hand of the angel. And the angel having taken the censor, he filled it with the fire from the altar, and threw it upon the earth; and there followed thunders, and voices, and lightnings, and an earthquake. Now the seven angels who had the
