9*23 26 dure; aye, to be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and professors, and be murdered, and be raised again But, speaking to .every one, He further said If any one wishes to come to Me,

let him deny himseif, take up his cross, and follow Me. For should any one desire to preserve his life, he shall lose it; but whoever may lose his life on account of Me, he will pre- serve it. What, indeed, will it profit 2. man to gain the whole world, but destroy himself or suffer loss? But jesus restrained the foul spirit, cured the boy, and returned him to his father. And they were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while they were all wondering

at what jesus had done, He said to Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands But they did not under- stand the statement.
